G’day!
I'm an ancient aussie visiting UK who was brought up on speedway bikes. From around 1955 to 1965 our family used to go every night to Aranui speedway in Christchurch NZ. What an experience. Our local racers were Ronnie Moore, Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger, plus another guy just as good who never travelled. Those three (I think) held 12 world championships between them. Because they were racing locally, we got to see the top UK riders (I remember Nigel Boocock's name) racing our blokes. Fantastic stuff.
Anyhow, after many years, I am visiting the UK, and would like to catch up with the bikes. I am staying in the Southampton area for the next couple of weeks, and would love to get to a meeting or two.
Problem: I have done a google on speedway meeting schedules/venues, and I can find the fixture lists (lots on) but there are no details of venues that a bloke like me can understand.
Would appreciate some help in finding out what meetings are on where, and at what time (not just dates). If someone can point me to a detailed schedule that includes these details, I would be very grateful.
PS, I was lucky to watch the Coventry v Ipswich meeting last week on Sky - great racing. And I want to see more, live.
