Glasgow Updates

The Glasgow "A-Plant" Tigers have always had a long and proud relationship with Speedway in Australia and in recent years the conveyor belt of talent from that part of the country has been working overtime.  The Tigers have of course a large  and proud history of famous Aussies, ranging from perhaps the best of them all in Charlie Monk right through to the current day with four in the side for next season already in the shape of Travis McGowan, Robert Ksiezak, Mitchell Davey and Josh Grajczonek.

Looking to the future, the Tigers have already agreed a long term deal for 15 year old Nick Morris, who is arriving on these shores in March, and have now added another name to the squad with a view to the future by capturing 18 year old MICHAEL PENFOLD.  The rider from New South Wales has been keeping very busy during the past couple of months with some very impressive shows in his homeland and will be arriving at some point during the season to pick up some experience of the UK tracks, with a view to becoming a full time Tiger at some point in the future.  Co-Promoter Stewart Dickson explained the reasons for this particular move:

"For some reason or another, the talent coming out of Australia at the moment is phenomenal and it would be most remiss of us not to keep a very close eye on the situation.  Our attention was drawn to Michael early this winter and we have watched his progress with great interest.  The rider is very determined to make a go of it in the UK and the World stage, and we are delighted that he has chosen Glasgow as his opening destination.

He has plenty of matters to take care of in Australia over the course of the next few months so he won't be arriving in the country until the summer time, but once he arrives we will get him some practice on our track and see where we go from there.  I would suspect that he will need a bit of time to get used to the differing style of tracks that we have in the UK, but he is only 18 years of age and I hope that he has plenty of improvement left in him.  Australian speedway is flying at the moment and at some point in the summer we will have 6 Aussies practicing together, and with Michael and Nick Morris learning their trade alongside the others then we should have plenty of options for our side in 2011."
